How to unlock the Above and Beyond achievement

This is not terribly different from the You Have Sealed Your Reign in History achievement, though it should be said that there are some pretty key differences between Two Crowns and Norse Lands. I'd recommend playing Two Crowns before jumping into Norse Lands, as Norse Lands is more challenging.

    1. Getting a better mount is definitely one of the first items with which you should concern yourself. The best mount, in my experience anyway, was Sleipnir, who is available on the 3rd Island for 3 gems and 12 coins. He is pretty fast and his special is a charge attack that will knock any Greed back, and sets a fire trail in its wake to kill any Greed that step on it. Great for lingering damage on armored Greedlings.

    2. The Items of Power are useful in their own right, though to get this achievement, you may want to stick with either Mjölnir (3rd Island) or the Portal Horn (1st Island). Mjölnir will cast down lightning 6 times before needing a 15-second recharge, and the lightning will target the Greed specifically if they are close enough to you. The Portal Horn can be used to make a blue portal and an orange portal (I see what you did there) and can transport soldiers from one portal to the other instantly. This is especially useful for bomb transport to the Greed lairs on each island. That said, the Greed can also use the portals that you create, so you might be facing down hordes of Greed unnecessarily if you're not careful about its use. The Trophy Head is cool too, especially if you get it (and use it) relatively early. It summons a ghost crew of 4 archers and one knight that will attack anything Greed, including the smaller Greed portals.

    3. Shrines, as always, are invaluable. The Archer shrine and Builder shrine should not be passed up, but frankly, I had enough gems by the end game to afford all of the shrines and still get access to everything I really wanted to use.

    4. A second player (or second controller) is extremely useful. That second player could get themselves a different mount than the one you might be using (like Gullinbursti, the gold-digging giant boar, or Fenrir, the giant wolf that buffs your army). This depends entirely on your needs. I did the two-controller method and used Gullinbursti to farm coins using his special ability.

    5. Some hermits are more useful than others. The Brewer, available on the 2nd Island, is my personal favorite. I usually convert one (and only one) of the innermost towers to a brewery so I can draw in vagrants from all over the map (the Brewer is serves the same purpose as the Baker in Two Crowns and New Lands). The Fire Tower Hermit, available on the 3rd Island, is also pretty good, but you should put them ahead of any walls that you have so you can set Greed on fire as they approach your kingdom. I'd occasionally use the Horn hermit, but the Stable hermit has never been useful for me.

    6. Greed Floaters don't exist in Norse Lands, and have effectively been replaced with Greed Crushers, which are strictly land-based attackers. Crushers are really good at demolishing your walls, but they are stunned by fire. The new berserker units that you can hire are also really good at making short work of Crushers. With that in mind, there is no reason to not build towers whenever possible. Once your towers are upgraded enough, no Greed can attack them, so you're not really putting any of your archers at risk. I only realized this towards the late game in my most recent playthrough.

    7. Expanding your borders will eventually give you access to the shield shop, where your builders and archers can equip a shield in addition to their axes and bows for 2 coins apiece. Archers will not become part of a squire's or knight's party unless they have a shield, so definitely plan on expanding early and quickly if you want to start taking out the smaller Greed portals.

    8. You don't have access to catapults or ballistae, which absolutely sucks, so plan accordingly. Berserkers are kind of a crapshoot; sometimes, they're absolutely devastating, but other times, they throw themselves in the fray and die immediately.

I unlocked this on a single monarch run, but I'd wager you could probably lose the crown or die in the Greed cave explosion and play as another monarch without losing the achievement down the road.

ShogunNemesisccliffy90 - Yes, you will need to unlock the final tech tree on island 5 (which is a dark wood lumber yard) in order to access the bombs to blow up Greed caves.

AydaTheOrribleI just wanted to add, it seems you can die and still get the achievement.

I had a strange thing happen whist getting Loki's Staff - I got attacked (since you need to), my crown landed in the statue's hands and I turned into a greedling, however, as soon as I changed to human, the game said I'd lost my crown and that was that. No idea if I messed up somehow or the game bugged since it was my first attempt.

Anyway, I went to the previous islands to get my upgrades etc, then went back to island 6 and the staff was active, I just had to pay 1 coin for it to get that related achievement. Cleared the cave on island 6 and this achievement unlocked. So no worries if you lose your crown, it's just the extra time it takes.

tynderiConfirmed in 2024 that you can still get the achievement even if you die. This would be easier too since you respawn on 1st island but you have all the wood/build updates and items of power to switch back at the base rock. Mounts and statue upgrades you have to collect again but with only coins this time.

Also I didn't notice if it was mentioned before but you need to only destroy the greed caves. I had 1 harbor end portal still up and this achievement popped for me.

HOW TO EARN 7 ACHIEVEMENTS BY ONLY DEFEATING THE GREED IN 1 ISLAND

This is a solution for :

Kingdom Two CrownsBeginning of a legendThe Beginning of a legend achievement in Kingdom Two Crowns worth 93 pointsDefeat the Greed on one land

Kingdom Two CrownsStories Have BegunThe Stories Have Begun achievement in Kingdom Two Crowns worth 101 pointsDefeat the Greed on two lands

Kingdom Two CrownsSongs Will Be WrittenThe Songs Will Be Written achievement in Kingdom Two Crowns worth 135 pointsDefeat the Greed on three lands

Kingdom Two CrownsLegends Will Be Passed DownThe Legends Will Be Passed Down achievement in Kingdom Two Crowns worth 146 pointsDefeat the Greed on four lands

Kingdom Two CrownsYou have Sealed Your Reign In HistoryThe You have Sealed Your Reign In History achievement in Kingdom Two Crowns worth 199 pointsDefeat the Greed on all five lands

Kingdom Two CrownsThere Is No Greater Ruler Than ThouThe There Is No Greater Ruler Than Thou achievement in Kingdom Two Crowns worth 389 pointsDefeat the Greed from all five lands in a single reign

Kingdom Two CrownsAbove and BeyondThe Above and Beyond achievement in Kingdom Two Crowns worth 167 pointsDefeat the Greed on all 6 Lands

So, what happened to me was that I was on my first reign (didn't die or lose the crown), and I came back to Island 1 to bomb the cave (my first).
When you light the bomb in the cave, you have to escape before it explodes, I didn't escape in time, I died, so when the game saved and prompted me some message with in the background the exterior of the cave, I earned
Kingdom Two CrownsBeginning of a legendThe Beginning of a legend achievement in Kingdom Two Crowns worth 93 pointsDefeat the Greed on one land

    then I quit.
I reloaded my save, and earned
Kingdom Two CrownsStories Have BegunThe Stories Have Begun achievement in Kingdom Two Crowns worth 101 pointsDefeat the Greed on two lands

    and so on.
Each time I loaded my save, the counter of islands freed went up by one, when I got to 5, I also earned
Kingdom Two CrownsThere Is No Greater Ruler Than ThouThe There Is No Greater Ruler Than Thou achievement in Kingdom Two Crowns worth 389 pointsDefeat the Greed from all five lands in a single reign

because the game thought that, even if I died, this was my fifth island defeated, so it gave me this achievement.
I even did this quit/reload one more time to earn
Kingdom Two CrownsAbove and BeyondThe Above and Beyond achievement in Kingdom Two Crowns worth 167 pointsDefeat the Greed on all 6 Lands

even if this is a DLC achievement (which I have not), I got the corresponding achievement.

FaSCoRPjust to mention, this has not be to do on a single reign. you can lose, and starting from isle 1 on the 2nd reign and still get it

nad destroyerI didn't get the achievements even though I purposely died in the first islands cave. It was weird though I got the victory message outside the cave but my monarch wasn't outside

nad destroyerWell I tried it again on the 4rth island and made sure I was nowhere near the exit and I got the last 2 achievements I was missing.
