If you're looking forward to Diablo 4's next expansion, we have some bad news: you'll have to wait until 2026. While the next storyline is a while off, players chasing the Diablo 4 achievements can still look forward to the regular rollout of seasonal content, like Diablo 4: Season of Witchcraft, which is running right now.

Blizzard says the next Diablo 4 expansion won't arrive in 2025

  • Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson has said the next Diablo 4 expansion won't launch until 2026
  • The Vessel of Hatred expansion launched later than Blizzard had planned
  • A Diablo 4 2025 roadmap will be revealed soon
When speaking today during the DICE Summit (via IGN), Blizzard's Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson confirmed that Diablo 4 players won't get another expansion until 2026, but we can expect plenty of seasons and updates throughout 2025.

"In 2025, or just before Season 8, we will have a 2025 roadmap for Diablo 4," Fergusson said. "Now, our second expansion won't be on that roadmap, because our second expansion is coming in 2026, but at least players will have the road ahead."

Although Fergusson didn't reveal why the next expansion is so far away, it could be down to Vessel of Hatred's late rollout. Early in the talk, Fergusson revealed that last year's expansion was supposed to launch 12 months after Diablo 4 released, but it was delayed by six months. Blizzard works around two seasons ahead of the game's current schedule, but due to the need to make adjustments for player feedback, resources were pulled from Vessel of Hatred. It's likely that the team is now behind schedule for the next expansion.

Diablo 4 is currently running its seventh season, Season of Witchcraft, which adds a host of new powers for players on the seasonal realm. It also introduces a host of permanent changes for the Tree of Whispers, Eternal Realm, and the Runes exclusively available to Vessel of Hatred players.

In other news from the world of Sanctuary, Diablo creator and former Blizzard North co-founder David Brevik recently revealed that he thinks modern ARPGs have been "cheapened" with fast leveling and tons of enemies to slaughter.
