Gears of War Forums officially shutting down in favour of Discord and other social media

The Coalition has announced it is shutting down the official Gears of War Forums next month in favour of other social media channels, such as Discord and Reddit.

For years, players and fans have frequented the official Gears of War Forums to discuss everything Gears-related. It was a great way to interact with fans of the series and bring issues with Gears games directly to The Coalition. Sadly, the team has now announced it will close the Gears of War Forums for good in April.

Official Gears of War Forums to close in April

"Those of us who started playing Gears of War in 2006 remember a different internet," a post on the forums from the Gears community team reads. "From the Epic Forums to the current Gears Forums, how we talk about the game we love and where we gather changes with time. With new platforms emerging, we’re always seeking the best ways to stay connected.

"Amid shifting trends, we’ve noticed communities growing in favour of channels like Discord, Reddit and social media, while activity has slowed down in our official forums. As such, we’ve made the difficult choice to sunset the forums on GearsofWar.com. On Monday, April 3rd, the Gears of War forums will transition to read-only mode, and on April 10th, we’ll power them down completely. Please use this window to store any memories you’d like to hold on to."

With the forums closing, The Coalition has pointed users in the direction of other social media channels such as its official Discord, Subreddit, and Twitter.

The news has been met with disappointment from the Gears community, with many saying that important information and discussions surrounding the Gears games will be lost once everything is shut down. Some have also pointed out that Discord and other social media channels (which some users aren't signed up for) simply aren't as good as official forums as, with Discord especially, information and posts can quickly get lost in an avalanche of comments.

The Gears of War Forums will move over to read-only mode on April 3rd before shutting down completely on April 10th.
