FYI: the achievement description is misleading. What it should say, is, "Complete 20 Veteran MAIN Missions". Before you can take on a veteran main mission, you have to complete 3 veteran side missions. So doing the math, you can tell this is going to take a while to complete. On the bright side, you need 10,000 kills and you need to finish 100 missions without anyone going down anyway, so there's that.

EDIT: Great tip from ailurophile in the comments, makes this go by extra quick:

Worth noting that the progress counter goes up as soon as the mission ends, you can therefore hit restart mission at the screen before returning to the convoy and effectively skip doing all the side missions.

Tracking broke for me as well. Played entirely on pc, played every mission legit (haven't done the restart trick) but just noticed the tracking hasn't moved for the last couple. As if the grind wasn't bad enough already!

Yeah, I’m at 18 Veteran missions (so completed 3 side missions + the veteran mission) and it’s been at 5% tracking the whole time

So, any help with the Veteran mission tracking? I don't know what's going on, I'm at 20 Veteran missions and only 40% tracked, I'm gonna drop this game X_X

Luckily i didn't have the tracking issue others are reporting.
I can confirm that restarting the veteran mission works fine.

For the record you can use the save/quit -> finish mission and force quit the game on the reward screen for this, however your gonna want to wait for your mission to be sabotage/incursion so you can farm the last kill. Using this method does work but the final kill needs to be from a different source of damage each time or the tracker does not move. I did this from 30% to 100% after much messing around to see what works.

^ +1 on Jobber's method, absolutely the fastest way to get this done.

Just save/quit on the last turn before you finish. Sped up what was quickly becoming a very tedious exercise.

I wish I knew you can just repeat main Veteran mission, I was half way through when I found out about this. And it was on Insane in classic mode. Took my ages to complete those, at least I got lot of kills for 10k, and my Reyna is lvl 10 and kills everything with granades. In scanvenger runs she can do missions by herslef in 3 turns without any fights.

You can pretty much bypass doing the first round of side missions by doing the following:
1.-Send a single unit.
2.-At the start of the mission blow them with a grenade.
3.-Return to convoy.
Do this 3 times, then the veteran main mission becomes available.
