    I used the official MP servers for this. After an hour of building a small base, it unlocked. When I started the server population was 1/16, not counting myself, and having looked, the official Keen run servers don't normally get above 10 players on a server so chances of another player seeing you are small for what is essentially an infinite procedurally generated universe.
