Originally down to launch on December 5 for Xbox Series X|S, publisher 11 bit studios has announced that The Thaumaturge has been delayed to February 20, 2024, on PC, and consoles sometime after, to give developer Fool's Theory additional time to polish the upcoming narrative-driven RPG.

With The Thaumaturge's December release date so close, Fool's Theory has been applying the finishing touches to the game, which has highlighted additional areas that could benefit from extra development time for polish. We're yet to learn of a release date for the Xbox Series X|S version of the game, but we'll let you know once a date is set.

"Mastering the mystic arts is an ambitious undertaking, and equally so is game development when you refuse to compromise on quality," the announcement on X reads. "With this in mind, 11 bit studios and Fool's Theory have mutually decided to give The Thaumaturge some additional time in development to achieve the standards that players have come to expect from them."

The Thaumaturge is a narrative-driven RPG set in Warsaw in 1905 and sees us playing as a Thaumaturge called Wiktor Szulski battling with demons. Those demons are known as Salutors, which use their victim's darkest secrets as sustenance, and it's up to the thaumaturge to purge the Salutors from those affected by them. It looks like it'll be a grim game, for sure, and we're certainly looking forward to exploring the burden carried by these unlikely heroes... and obliterating some demons!

Although we're sad to see The Thaumaturge pushed out of its 2023 release date, with Larian expecting to launch its Game of the Year-nominated RPG, Baldur's Gate III on Xbox Series X|S in December, it's probably for the best that The Thaumaturge gives it some breathing room.
