This is really a clickbait article. :( It really sucks to see so many obvious clickbaits on a site that is meant to be for xbox fans. He clearly says the game runs at a MINIMUM 30 FPS and THEY ARE STILL WORKING ON IT AS IT IS THE LAST STEP FOR THEM BEFORE LAUNCH. While the title of the article make it sound like this is already confirmed to be 30 Fps. I also don't get why we even need an article about 30 Fps in a Video Game...never bothered me on the Xbox 360 and it doesn't bother me here.

Just stop with these negative articles all the time.
I wish people that claim everything is clickbait would learn what that term really means. The headline of this article clearly summarizes the primary message of the article itself - that is the exact opposite of clickbait. If it said "You won't believe the performance targets for Avowed" and made you wade through 30 slides with one image each and one of three statements phrased slightly differently, and then only giving you the info you were looking for on slide 29, THAT would be clickbait.
The title says Avowed 'runs' at 30 Fps Obsidian claims. Yet nowhere in the article he states it. He says they are still working on it and 30 FPS ist their goal at bare MINIMUM. So yes, the article is clickbait because the title sounds like it is already confirmed the game will only run at 30 Fps, while this is simply not ture. Maybe it will run at 30 Fps or maybe it will have more as...again...THEY ARE STILL WORKING ON IT as this is the last step for them before finishing the game. The game is not even out yet so how can the title say it 'runs' at 30 Fps?

I always laugh when people complain about this because I literally cannot see any difference. It's totally meaningless to me. It's like watching people bitch and moan that the game only runs at 37 biblawaffles per septagon. 🤣

Even if I could see a difference, who gives a shit? Is the game fun? That's the only question I care about. Maybe I'm just old, but this feels like such a silly and stupid thing to whine about. Like of all the things to give a fuck about. If you care that much then drop the price of a used car on a high end gaming PC so you can not-see all those extra frames. 😂
Everyone who owns a TV (screen) bigger than 20 inches can see the difference. You've clearly never played at 60fps. If you had, you would definitely know the difference.
If I look at it side by side I can see a difference then. It also, and I cannot stress this enough, does not fucking matter.

All of you people having a meltdown that a single player game is "only" 30fps, please find something actually important to get so worked up over.
So you just lied for shock value, and an interaction. How unsurprising.

Also, "it does not fucking matter".... To you. As you can see, many other people care.

I'll never quite understand people like you, who say things like "it doesn't matter" or "who cares", all while arguing about it, and putting other people down because of their own opinions on the matter that you admittedly "don't care" about.
I'd love to know how I "lied for shock value" 🙄 What a fucking joke. After I read all that nonsense I went out of my way to look up comparisons, and then only by looking at 30fps literally side by side with 60fps and 120fps could I tell any difference at all. If it is not literally side by side I do not notice it AT ALL. Which is what I was talking about. If I'm just seeing gameplay or a video playing, I do not notice or even think about its frame rate.

And I can see that lots of other people care, what I can't see is why. It's a complete non-issue to whine about. There are people in here dooming over how console gaming is "dead" and saying they'll refuse to buy games that are 30fps. That's fucking stupid, period. Regardless, this may sound paradoxical to you, but you can not care about an issue itself while still caring that the issue is somehow controversial.
Firstly, it's okay brother, no need to change your original reply. You lied, said you "literally cannot see the difference" and "even if you could" blah blah blah. Then you pretend you're only talking about side by side when you could've easily stated that to begin with, before you were called out.

You could've easily started your original comment off with: "I just looked at a bunch of side-by-side comparisons, and only then, could I tell a difference." if that were the case... but you didn't. You made it a point to start with "I literally cannot tell the difference." Why? Because you wanted to lie for an interaction, just so you could insert yourself into the argument that you "don't care" about. I doubt you even looked at comparisons, until maybe after you just got called out for being blind.

Second, like I said, you're sitting here insulting people over their opinions. I never said you're not allowed to "care that the issue is somehow controversial", I said I don't understand people like you: Telling everyone how much it "doesn't matter" or how much you "don't care", all while putting people down for their own opinions on the matter that they clearly care about. It just makes you look like a child.

Once again, it's a "non-issue", it "doesn't matter"... To you. It matters to many other people, especially people here that take gaming more seriously.

Saying it's "stupid" if people refuse to buy a game at 30fps. There are many reasons people refuse to buy games, I'm sure you have many of your own.. not a big deal.

Telling people to "find something actually important to get worked up over"... While you yourself are getting worked up over other other people having an opinion on how their games should run on their "next-gen" consoles.

It's not really that hard to comprehend how immature you look. If you think all of these things, then go on about your day, and take your own advice: Find some actually important to get worked up over.

These people care about how their games run, look, and feel. You don't. Both are fine, it's not that deep.

Anyways, you have a good day my friend.

I agree but this has been a thing here for a while now, just got used to it. I guess they make a lot of SEO ad revenue (I don't blame them for wanting to make money). This is the only Xbox site I use/comment on now as other sites are way worse laugh

I don't think you read the same words I did, or watched the interview. He clearly says "30 was our goal and we're happy with that". So it IS currently running at 30 FPS and they're not going to jump through hoops to get to 60 before release. As with other titles, they may tweak it and release a patch with 60 later - but it will release at 30 because that was what they were trying to accomplish. That also fits with how they've approached previous releases, so it shouldn't be a surprise to anybody that they're confirming it now.

And it's still not correct to call this "clickbait" - they can't put the whole article in a headline and this was a totally reasonable summary of what was said. It's like calling everything 'fake news' just because it's not flattering to you, or you don't want it to be true.
Don’t play chess with a pigeon. It’ll just knock over the pieces, shit all over the board, and then strut around like it won the game.

Literally don't care. In fact I actively prefer 30fps for cinematic games like Hellblade 2, Indy etc.
Blowing up over this is hilarious to me.

This is the most press this game will ever get. Obsidian has really fallen off.

Just to throw my two cents in, I am fine with 30fps. Always have been, always will be.

These discussions always blow up but honestly the best thing I’ve seen to date about Avowed is the box art. I was very unimpressed with the game play I’ve seen, perhaps games like Lies of P and Elden Ring have spoiled me but I’m not sure how you fix that awful looking combat. Even on Game Pass Avowed would be way, way down my list of things to play.

Please put Obsidian on a Fallout spin off and let’s get something great out of them once again.

Quit whining. The current consoles are really old at this point and they're far from cutting edge. Stable 30 FPS is fine and if you don't like it, buy a PC.
I've seen this argument multiple times now but it makes 0 sense. On playstation 5 most if not all games offer you an option - 4k with ray tracing or 60fps, and sometimes balanced. It's Xbox that keeps locking games at 30fps then people keep coming in and saying if you don't like it buy a pc - well it clearly isn't true, it's just that Xbox don't invest in the best gaming experiences like ps do. Just look at games like final fantasy 16 for comparison. I think the only reason for it is Xbox have committed to the Xbox series S console alongside the x console so games will only be as good as they can be supported on the s which holds it back against the competition.

It runs at 30 First Person Shooters?
    I don't get it

I don’t really have a dog in this fight but I did watch several Games Con hands on previews where using any of those settings on the PS5 just caused the game to crash, in fact one hands on recorded at 720p to make it work 😂

I would expect that’s a nice feature for consumers but much like the Series S requirements on XBox, it has a development cost.

It probably doesn't make sense to you because (and not to be rude but) you don't actually know what you are talking about. Picking FF16 as an example of how the PS5 and other devs are able to achieve the dream but MS can't, is a nice benchmark to compare, and Digital Foundry obviously have a handy video for us.

FF16's performance mode drops the resolution to as low as 720p and still doesn't run at a solid 60fps. In exploration you can still hit as low as 30fps and hovers around 40-45fps. It's only in combat, post patch, that 60fps is hit, and that is when the resolution is thrown down to that 720p mark. And that's a PS5 exclusive. There are even forum posts in 2024 complaining that the performance mode still hasn't been fixed, and pushsquare has an article from June about it still not being fixed. The game is at its best when running at 30fps at 1440p (not even full 4K). This is the type of performance you expect out of the Series S.

It's not the Series S, it's not MS (not exclusively at least). It's devs targetting graphical fidelity beyond what the 9th gen can handle at higher performance states. I can only imagine it's unconscious bias that's leading people to believe that this phenomenon is exclusive to xbox or MS and that their other favourite games are all perfect 4k/60fps experiences. The most generous interpretation is that people are upset that MS isn't lying to them about what kind of experience they can have with their games.

Same. The "30fps vs" whatever debate is useless for the most part, especially when it comes to single player titles like this one. There is an argument for competitive shooters, but outside of that it is just silly IMO.
