So on the topic of Yakuza games.. which ones are the “weird” ones? The non-numbered ones? Or are they all weird? Not interested in a generic yakuza game, I want wackiness.
Yeah I'm not sure what you mean, they all have wackiness in them. The main story might be serious, but no game is shy from wacky
I mean one of them has borderline Pokémon battles and the newest one has pirates. Are they all like that?
7 and 8 are turn based RPGs based off the main characters overactive imagination. So those games double down on the silly.

But all games have large chunks of unbelievable oddities

Be it underground female wrestling, hiring a chicken to run your real estate, fighting for your life in sex rooms, bulldozers thrashing brothels, men running half naked through the street looking for the next best thing to masturbate to, your rival disgusting himself as a woman to test your strength, turning enemies into snowmen to defeat them, fighting japanese deities to unlock your potential, entering the world of virtual reality to increase your abilities, taking photos of couples kung fu fighting so you can learn new techniques, rubbing your face in girls panties to try to understand why men steal them, going hand to hand with vicious tigers, using piledrivers on bears, battling sharks with harpoon guns.

The list goes on and on

I honestly didn't like the older Yakuza games. I know I know I'm going to get bashed lol.
I like the newer turn based ones though.

I also disagree with what you said about Ishin, I might have not finished it but I love the setting and the gameplay, not sure what would make it "the worst in almost every regard"
For me to properly go into why I hate "Ishin! Kiwami" as much as I do would frankly take far too long, and I don’t feel interested in plugging the pastebin that has my write-up of the game. So I’ll just say what I like about it. Really liked the setting, music (final boss theme in the last phase has one of my favourite little pieces of music in the entire franchise), buyo dance minigame, and the interactions Ryoma has with Soji and Toshizo. It really feels like those instances evolve the relationships between Kiryu and Majima/Mine.
That’s about it. Fwiw the completion didn’t really worsen my viewpoint too much, but that might just be the game getting lucky that I had 30 hours of podcast stuff set up in preparation for the Battle Dungeon grind.

Yeah, I can understand not being excited about the dungeon grind !

Hopefully they add pirate yakuza to replace those taken away
Meanwhile, Judgment and Lost Judgment still haven't been added to Game Pass.

What's wrong with that?? He makes some of the best and fastest full achievement walkthrough videos around. I beat GRIS in literally 3hrs 24mins following his video. In all the videos of his I have ever used, he's yet to be wrong once. Super high quality and well-done videos. And a great guy

Sounds like you’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. Good luck haha.

I had to suffer through one of his humourless guides once and you couldn’t pay me to do it again.

I mean, does it really matter if you get the achievements and completion done as fast as possible? Doesn't really matter to me either way. I happen to like the guy and think he's funny sometimes, and it breaks up the tedium of doing silly GP games but even if I didn't, I'd still use him. They are almost always the fastest guides you can find and that's what really matters at the end of the day if you are an achievement hunter.

Aw man, I'm still only on Kiwami. Was really hoping I would be able to get through all the pre-rebrand games on gamepass so i could save money and more easily buy-to-own Like a Dragon onwards. Kind of throws a wrench in my plans if I have to buy the remastered trilogy too

Believe it or not, not everyone hunts achievements like you do - certainly not me. So yes, it matters. If I need to follow a guide I’d prefer one that just focused on the guide.

But, to each their own. Hopefully the other user also finds a better guide online. laugh

Guess I'll try to complete both Gris and Maneater, should have enough time for both
