Gears of War Forums officially shutting down in favour of Discord and other social media

Appreciate all you do. Socialite has also been unobtainable since 2022, which is needed for Seriously 3.0.

I guess this means my chances of ever being able to play Gears 4 again after they retro banned my account for filling a lobby with enough players/controllers to start a match since the servers were dead in my region. I did that 2 weeks before they announced they would be banning people for doing this. And now they don’t ban anyone in Gears 4.

I like Discord, I regularly use it for Fantasy Hockey and small gaming groups however I dont think its a good place to replace a forum. They arent close to the same thing. Its gonna be a mess. Comments will be buried and Servers that are very active need to be muted because you will get notifications every damn second. It would be like replacing a forum with MSN Messenger back in the day.

Reddit makes sense.

Where were the leaked DMs posted to ? I can't believe they interacted like that with players.............

Can you imagine if this was for the servers? We'd have Bad Company 1 and Gears 1 to rush to completion (Also, I know Gears isn't server based. The title just had me confused for a split second)

Also discord mods overall are a bunch of pansies.

Never been on Gears of War forums, but seems like it would be great place to talk about Gears of War. Definitely won't be talking about Gears of War on Reddit for "reasons". I also don't know how to use Discord.

I 100 percent agree, their behavior has been disgusting. As I'm guessing they completely gave up the pretense of fixing Sybarite, I will never play another Gears game after I finish my last two achievements in Ultimate. They lied and promised they'd fix it, then they hemmed and hawed when fans asked them about it, then turned absolutely toxic towards their fans who expected them to honor their promise. No more for me man.

The most hilarious part is they're all so done with the franchise, but grind out achievements for 100% completion or promise to avoid it because of an achievement that unobtainable, pathetic really

First of all my comment was aimed at WhitestAFI2ICAN one of the few who seems to understand the general crowd on here.

Secondly you clearly feel addressed and you also clearly moan about an achievement so don't twist your own words.

Either get of your high horse, enjoy and play the game or stick to your guns and completely abandon anything Gears not that difficult is it "friend"?

For those that don't know. Discord came out with a feature a few months ago called "Threads" which are basically the old school forums within the Discord.

Never understood discord. Got it because a session on here demanded you had it otherwise you couldnt join and it just made zero sense to me. Ui was horrible, all the servers just had people talking random shit in them as if id just started reading someones group chat and i had no idea how to look for the actual info regarding the session. Seems like a steep learning curve for someone as old hat as me (still in my 20's )
Agreed. The gameplay is almost unbearable to play now. Anyone who says this game holds up is clearly looking through rose tinted glassed

Honestly can't stand Discord and barely tolerate Reddit, but its not like I used the Gears forum either. Basically gave up on Gears when Sybarite was never fixed. Did the OG trilogy and might do the Ultimate Edition remaster and the Tactics game at some point, but mostly don't have the interest these days, due mostly to the epic grinds required for achievements sometimes.

I feel the same way, horrible UI, completely user unfriendly in my opinion. Admittedly, I am an old dog but I usually can learn some new tricks fairly easily, but not in this case.

Ah that’s a shame. Was nervous for a second this had something to do with the original Gears servers shutting down. Hopefully when that is announced there is plenty of notice and it causes a surge of sessions for Seriously. Maybe then I’ll actually knock that off…

I knew the franchise was done when I got banned from Discord (later I found out by asking the forum moderator that I got banned without warning for a "political" post *months* after I posted it) and I couldn't ask anybody about it, because the community manager role had been vacant... for years. Pause and think of any other franchise as big as Gears of War which hasn't had a community manager for that long. You won't think of any, because there aren't.

They shut down the stats page on the website, now they're shutting down the forums because the majority of the posts on there are about them not fixing achievements. On Reddit and Discord it's much easier for them to ban whoever they want, because once you get banned, you can't communicate with anyone still in it and can't view anything either!

MS franchises can't catch a break man and it's so disappointing because I feel MS went the other way under Spencer and let both 343i and The Coalition free to do whatever the fuck they wanted.
