Xbox exclusive Avowed is similar in length to The Outer Worlds

25 - 30 hours is perfect for me. I don't have time for everything I'm interested in to be 100+ hours.

I try to mix it up, a 200hr + game is fine, but broken up between 10-30hour games.

This is a little dissapointing if I'm being honest.

I mean the game could still end up being great, but I think the expectation was that we were going to be getting something more like Obsidians Skyrim.
I think Skyrim is a fun game but doing everything it has to offer was incredibly boring. I prefer the writing of Obsidian where everything isn't as copy paste as Bethesda can make it feel. Sure Skyrim has more content but I would argue the quality on average is lower than an Obsidian game.

For example, I loved Starfield's curated content but the procedural stuff that was meant to pad more time was so tedious to me. I loved Outer Worlds enough to be down for this regardless.

I like having the two different types of RPGs. If Bethesda made everything, I would grow tired of it for example.
Oh yeah don't get me wrong, I'm still looking forward to this, but Outer Worlds was pretty short in comparison to what people were expecting, and I was just hoping this would be at least a little longer than that!

I’ve replayed The Outer Worlds about 7 or 8 times. Avowed will probably be the same replay value because it’s Obsidian, all their games are all like that.

One can only hope Avowed will only be a timed exclusive and will quickly extract itself from junior varsity hell.

Outer Worlds was perfect length IMO, so this is good news for me. We don't need every RPG to be 75+ hour behemoths. Plus, we already know Obsidian will release at least two stellar expansions that add 15+ hours of content a pop.

My only hesitation with this is the combat. I know the story will be excellent and the world incredible, but boy Outer World's combat was dogshit.

I played the XBox One, PS4, and Windows PC versions of the base game. I owned the board approved bundle for each game so I got a steep discount on the Spacer's Choice Edition. I played that game on the Series X, PS5, and Windows PC. I've also done a few speedruns through the game.

As you say, great replay value. I have high hopes for Avowed.

Whatever the estimate is, I can almost guarantee that I'll take about twice that long to actually finish it, so this is fine by me! laugh
Same. I don’t follow guides. I am playing Outer Worlds for the first time right now. I have no idea how to get all the achievements, I’m just adventuring. Any I miss due to my choices I will seek out on a second playthrough.

This subject of game length is really interesting. There seems to be an assumption by many gamers that longer is better, but I find myself starting to burn out before the end of most games.
AC Valhalla. Good game, but it's way too big. No need to cover the entire country (albeit a condensed version).

40-50 hours is solid for an open world RPG.
Not every game, needs to be 200+ hours long.
Dude The Outer Worlds was like 20 hours at most this is not gonna be 40-50 hours
Dude. We are not talking about speed running the main storyline on the easiest difficulty whilst following a guide and skipping all the dialogue. That may be the way you enjoy a game, but I don’t get any satisfaction playing that way. I can only assume you have another account or play games on PlayStation or Switch. You only have 3 achievements on Xbox/Windows, which took you 4 hours. Good luck getting the other 45 achievements in 16 hours.

All these people that don’t want Avowed to be an RPG, just go and play an action adventure.

The whole point of an RPG is so you can develop your character in one of a hundred ways, make mutually exclusive choices, and have a massive world to explore as you want. A game that has consequences to how you play and your decisions, giving it replayability.

It’s like the people that didn’t want any violence or nudity in Game of Thrones - just go find something else to watch if you don’t like that.

I really liked the outer worlds but my only gripe was how short the game was. I was hoping avowed would be a bit bigger but I'm still excited for it nevertheless.
Agreed. Outer Worlds was a blast. It just felt like it ended way too soon. It sort of pulls a 'Force Unleashed 2' by finally ramping up and getting good, then rolling the credits. It's a little jarring to think that Avowed is going to be the same length, especially since games are almost always relatively shorter than what the developers clock them at.

I'm ok with some shorter games. 100+ hour RPGs start to get boring with rinse and repeat missions.

But it's got two exceptional DLCs as well.

Thanks. I like to mess around games. I inefficiently, but systematically, try to discover everything the game has to offer. People who use a WT, however, generally do so because they want an efficient guide for the game. Since, my explorations allow me to discover what not to do, it’s easy to provide a streamlined path through the game.

I believe that gaming should be fun. I try to incorporate what I find fun in the few walkthroughs I’ve written.

I’m a big believer in immersion as well. When I play, I try to unlock achievements within the context of the story. Where it’s not feasible, I’ll unlock the achievement on a ‘throw-away’ save so it does not intrude on the immersive experience.

Avowed is set in the same fictional universe as Pillars of Eternity. PoE had a much longer playing time than TOW. It had an intriguing cosmology and the world-building was much more elaborate. It lacked TOW’s irreverent humor though. I’m hoping Avowed incorporates the greater depth of PoE while adding TOW-type humor.
