Our latest Xbox Gameplay Chart shows Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2 back in the top 40. According to the chart data, which uses a sample size of over 2.4 million Xbox accounts courtesy of our partnership with GameInsights, the game's Xbox player count has jumped by an impressive 70% since January 27. The timing syncs perfectly with its latest Datavault update, which packed in a ton of content for standard and Season Pass players.

We started seeing many players returning to Space Marine 2 at the end of last month, which suggests that many of you space warriors were preparing for the Datavault update on February 6. Saber Interactive's awesome sci-fi shooter was 45th in our Gameplay Chart on January 27 before dropping to 49th on February 3. This week, though, the game has rocketed back up the chart to solidify itself as the 33rd most-popular Xbox game.

The Datavault update is likely the reason for the latest boom in Xbox players. It rolled out on February 6 as a free patch for all Space Marine 2 players on Xbox Series X|S, although it does feature some content exclusive to owners of the game's Season Pass too.

As for its awesome freebies, the titular Datavault is its defining feature, which is a new challenge system you can access via the Armoury on the Battle-Barge. It adds a type of challenge called Ordeals and a new currency, known as Research Points, to be traded in with the Tech-Priests for Requisition Points and used to unlock new cosmetics and armor pieces.

Saber also treated us to a new PvP map called Tomb, as well as a new Tyranid Biovore Majoris enemy, which can dish out devastating damage from close and long range. The Biovore is sure to be a pain in the backside on the latest difficulty level too: Absolute. It's the hardest and last difficulty Saber will add to Space Marine 2.

As for the aforementioned Season Pass content, the Datavault update added cosmetics for the Raven Guard and Salamanders. The Raven Guard Cosmetic Pack features the Mark Vi "Corvus" helmet alongside more than 40 new cosmetics based on the Chapter. The Salamanders Champion Pack, on the other hand, introduces a new Champion skin for the sniper class and an exclusive sniper rifle skin.

  • When an account opens a game, this is registered as a game being played. Accounts can only register a game once per week.
  • Our data is good for suggesting general trends — we represent this using percentages, not numbers.
