Xbox players set for a legendary Game Pass lineup in early 2025 If you've not seen Xbox Game Pass' early 2025 lineup, be warned! It's stuffed full of unbelievable games — from Doom: The Dark Ages to Avowed!Opinion by Kes Eylers-Stephenson Published 24 Jan 2025 FollowtopicsXbox Series X|SOpinionKes Eylers-Stephenson After Developer Direct, one thing stood out to me: Xbox Game Pass' early 2025 lineup is incredible. The list of upcoming Game Pass games is simply mega — from FPS games like Doom to fun experimental games like South of Midnight, to epic RPGs like Avowed. How on earth are we supposed to play them all?Kes' Take — Xbox Developer Direct 2025 lined up a wild selection of games for Series XXbox Developer Direct 2025 gave us key release dates for the big Series X|S gamesEarly 2025 will now have the releases of Doom: The Dark Ages, Avowed, and South By MidnightAll three key games will be available on Xbox Game Pass UltimateAt Xbox Developer Direct 2025, we got a much better look at what Microsoft's developers at Xbox Game Studios and Zenimax are working on and when they will be released. The cloud of uncertainty has cleared with new information and it looks like we're in for a generational run of games in early 2025. Even better? They are all coming to Game Pass Ultimate. The games have to be good at the end of the day, but with those new release dates from the event for Doom: The Dark Ages and South of Midnight, it's looking promising! Just take a look at a few of these confirmed titles:7 exciting early 2025 Game Pass releasesNinja Gaiden 2 Black — available nowSniper Elite: Resistance — January 30, 2025Avowed — February 18, 2025Atomfall — March 27, 2025South of Midnight — April 8, 2025Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 — April 24, 2025Doom: The Dark Ages — May 15, 2025I think even the pessimists among you have to admit, that's a stacked Game Pass calendar. That's at least one interesting game a month with your subscription until June 2025. We are going to be eating well, everyone!I think its greatest strength is in its variety. I'm not just talking about the genres either, though there is that too. We have a hardcore action game followed by a third-person shooter, a fantasy RPG with a survival game in tow, and an action adventure followed by a bloody FPS. Now those are some shifts in thumb movements. We're also getting total tonal and artistic variety. I absolutely love the stop-motion art style of South by Midnight and the fantasy realism in that deep south setting. Compulsion Games' action-adventure may well catch a few people off guard when it lands in early April.Despite also hailing from the fantasy genre, we also are getting our high-fantasy RPG fill with Avowed. With Obsidian at the helm, it's following their trend of making epic and sprawling games like they did with Fallout New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity. It has a different feel than everything else I listed!Contrast that with id Software's latest entry into its long-running FPS franchise. As Tom outlined in his Doom the Dark Ages preview, it looks like medieval meets metal — could you ask for anything more? I mean that's a tone shift and a half, but that variety helps push this lineup into the stratosphere for me!But the important question: what do you think? Will any of these games be lining up amongst the best Xbox Game Pass games? Only time will tell, but the signs are good from my point of view!
