Players now have new Xbox repair options in the UK, as Microsoft has partnered with Currys in the UK and Ireland. The partnership is part of Microsoft's plans to become a zero-waste, carbon-negative, and water-positive company by 2030.

Microsoft partners with Currys for UK and Ireland Xbox repairs

  • Currys is now an Authorized Service Provider (ASP) for Xbox repairs
  • The UK tech chain will repair Xbox consoles regardless of where the console was purchased
  • Microsoft plans to become a zero-waste, carbon-negative, and water-positive company by 2030
As announced on Currys' website, the UK tech company is now the first Authorized Service Provider (ASP) for Xbox consoles in the UK and Ireland. The company already has a Surface partnership with Microsoft, which offers alternative repair options for Surface laptops in the region, but will now handle Xbox console repairs too. The repair service will be available in Currys' stores or via its Newark repair center for Xbox consoles in and out of warranty, no matter where you purchased the device.

“We are so proud to see our repair partnership with Microsoft flourish. It's collaborations like this that help us to help more customers enjoy their tech for longer," Currys chief operating officer Lindsay Haselhurst says. "This is good news for players, opening up a huge network to get their tech fixed; it’s good news for Currys, helping to change the consumer relationship with tech for the better; and it’s good news for the planet, and the battle to combat the UK’s e-waste crisis.”

Last month, Microsoft announced a partnership with uBreakiFix to offer a similar repair experience in the US via more than 700 stores. Microsoft also revealed that the Microsoft Store will begin stocking replacement components for Xbox Series X|S console, while the Microsoft Repair Hub on iFixit will begin offering replacement console parts.

The move is part of Microsoft's plan to become a greener company, which will see the company eliminate single-use plastics from all of its packaging this year. With features like the energy-saving shutdown setting, improvements to the Xbox Series S, and the Xbox Sustainability Toolkit, which developers of the best Xbox games can use to implement "innovative solutions to reduce our environmental impact," Microsoft says it "prevented over 1.2 million metric tons of CO2e (Carbon Dioxide equivalent) compared to usage without interventions" between FY20 and FY23.
