Microsoft's lower-end console is getting some love, as the Xbox Series S helped optimize Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 for other platforms, and not just on Xbox for players collecting the Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 achievements. It seems the open-world Xbox game runs far better thanks to the Xbox Series S.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 devs praise the Xbox Series S

  • The Xbox Series S "greatly" helped optimize Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 for other platforms, Warhorse says.

According to Warhorse Studios' international PR manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling AKA Sir Tobi, the Xbox Series S helped the team optimize its latest game across all platforms. When recently discussing the game on the Iron Lords Podcast, Tobi revealed that Warhorse's priority was to have Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 run well at 30fps.

The team wanted to "make it stable and make it bulletproof, and then when they found out, 'Hey, wait a second, it seems like we can do more, especially with the new PlayStation [Pro] releasing, that offered again more power on the hardware," Tobi said. "We were like, 'Okay, what if we test a few things here and there?' The optimizations also for the Xbox Series S helped greatly [with] the other platforms as well.

"It's the weakest of the four; I mean that's not even a secret, but since you have to dial down on a few things and have to be clever about where you can in the programming, in the code, and so on and be able to save memory here and there, some of these optimizations for [Xbox Series] S benefit the other consoles as well," Tobi continued. "You either can go full force ahead with the big ones, or you use those memory savings that you found out for the S and use it for the bigger ones as well so that it runs smoother — [I'm] not saying that it looks worse, or whatever, than it could, but it runs better."

Last Year, Warhorse Studios spoke about Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 during the Game Access conference, revealing that the game would only run at 4K/30fps on Xbox Series X, while the Xbox Series S would target 1440p/30fps. Apparently, KCD2's scope was limited because of the Xbox Series S, but it would still be 25% bigger than its predecessor.

The optimizations appear to have paid off, as Kingdome Come: Deliverance 2 now features an upscaled 4K/30fps Fidelity mode and upscaled1440p/60fps Performance mode on Xbox Series X. As for the Xbox Series S, things aren't quite as good as the team originally planned, as it only offers 1080p/30fps.
