Ubisoft says Assassin's Creed Shadows preorders are "solid" despite the game's turbulent development, which has led to multiple delays. It seems many players are excited to start collecting the Assassin's Creed Shadows achievements next month, as preorders are said to be "in line" with one of the best Xbox RPGs: Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Assassin's Creed Shadows on track to be one the most successful games of the series

  • Assassin's Creed Shadows has similar preorder numbers as Assassin's Creed Odyssey
  • Odyssey is the second-best-selling game in the franchise
  • Shadows launches on Xbox Series X|S on March 20, 2025
Ubisoft's latest financial report reveals that a large number of players have already preordered Assassin's Creed Shadows. "The game builds on the franchise’s core strengths while introducing fresh elements that enhance variety and engagement, and to date, previews have been positive," Ubisoft says. "Preorders for the game are tracking solidly, in line with those of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the second most successful entry of the franchise."

During the earnings call with investors, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said, "I want to commend the incredible talent and dedication of the entire Assassin’s Creed team, who is working tirelessly to ensure that Shadows delivers on the promise of what is the franchise's most ambitious entry yet."

Ubisoft has hit rough waters in recent months after seeing its share price fall significantly after the launch of Star Wars Outlaws, leading to one investor demanding a change of CEO. Sadly, Ubisoft has had to undergo cost-cutting measures as a result, which saw the company close its Leamington studio in the UK last month, and lay off around 185 employees across the business.

"We are progressing well on our cost reduction program," Guillemot said during the earnings call. "We plan to pursue our efforts in FY26, going beyond the initial target by a significant margin."

As for Assassin's Creed Shadows, while its mounts have failed to impress our resident animated horse connoisseur Heidi, she had plenty of praise for the game in her Assassin's Creed Shadows preview. "While it’s too soon to tell if the usual problems will rear their heads; I can say I had a great time with the preview and walked away feeling excited to play more when it finally releases."
